Chief Minister inaugurates three day Seminar

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan inaugurated the three day International Seminar on 'Democratic and Secular Education-Kerala Experience' at Kariavattom campus in the Uinversity of Kerala.
In his inaugural address the Chief Minister pointed out, "We have five universities and have the ability to provide education to everyone. Though our education is wide spread it lacks the depth. So we should raise the standard of our education system". He also emphasised that we should never be a race that has lost its individuality.

The Chief Minister added that today's world gives importance to scientific and technological education. Even though this is necessary, we should not neglect the study of humanities. We must consider this factor when the new educational system is framed.
"Every society's structure and development depend upon its educational contents and pedagogy. Cent percent literacy and universal education are the plus points of Kerala. In Kerala both of these came out from the social circumstances that existed here", he added.
K.N. Panikkar, the Vice Chairman of Kerala State Higher Education Council did the dual task of giving introductory remarks and welcome speech in the absence of the Minister for Sports          and         Youth     Affairs, M. Vijayakumar, who could not attend the inauguration because of some important legislative matters.

The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran, Mayor Jayan Babu, Prof. Rima D Apple and Swami Agnivesh also spoke on the occasion.
